Bubbly Bobbles Coasters

Hello Everyone,

Today I will be sharing with you my very ever first written pattern for my bubbly bobbles coasters :) Please note that the pattern have not been tested so if you find a snag please e-mail me and let me know. I hope you like it and put it into use :D

·      Size:
Around 10 cms/4 inches from one side to the other.

Materials:
Yarn: Alize Forever Simli 96% Microfiber Acrylic, 4% Metallic.
Hook: 2 mm steel hook.

The yarn I used is a Turkish brand. You can use any fine thread to achieve the end result.

Terminology Used:

Double crochet
Single crochet
Treble
Double

Special Stitches:
Bobble: A bobble stitch is a group of trebles that are joined together at both top and bottom.  We are doing a cluster of 3 trebles to form our bobble.
Wrap the yarn around the hook, insert the hook in the required stitch, pull a loop through, wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through the first two loops, leaving one loop on your hook, repeat 2 more times in the same stitch. Then wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through all loops closing your bobble.
Note that at beginning of the rounds your chain 3 counts as your 1st treble. So you will start your bobble from “repeat 2 more times…” till the end.

Stitch Abbreviations:

Sl st
Slip stitch

Chain
tr

Dc
Double crochet

Note:
Chain 3 counts as your 1st treble.

You will make your last bobble in the space between your last tr and your first one from round 1 {12 bobbles}

Round 3: Chain 3, 1 tr in the same stitch as ch-3, 1 tr in the following ch-1 space, * 2 trs in the following stitch, 1 tr in the following ch-1 space,* repeat form * to *, sl st in the top of the beginning of ch-3. {36 trebles}

Coasters and Mandala

As promised it is Thursday and I am going to give you a glimpse on my own creations :) I started off with coasters and mandalas. I remember when my maternal grandmother some 20 years or so ago taught me how to crochet potholders. I must confess that I am using the ones she and mom made me but I cannot remember how to crochet them though they was so simple and fast to make. So, I might grab one of them one of these days and try to replicate it, and may be improve it up a bit...

Let me introduce to you the Bubbly Bobbles design. I created this coaster for a dear friend of mine and I really fell in love with it. It is all about the bobble stitch, hence the name. I made it with a fine microfiber thread that has a metallic strike to it using a 2.00 mm metal hook. Again, it is a Turkish brand called Alize forever since most of the available yarn in Egypt are imported from Turkey. These was not blocked when I took that photo. After blocking they round up nicely.

My friend was quite happily surprised with them. Then I went and made another set for my best friend. I think it is about time I make a set for myself and write up the tutorial.

Another creation of mine is the Flowery Trebles coasters. I actually love this design very much may be because it touches my feminine side. I am in the process of doing a set of 6 and I will be writing the tutorial as I go. I am using the same yarn and hook size as I used in the Bubbly Bobbles coasters.

A little Mandala of my own was inspired after Lucy from Attic24 called on her fans to send her mandalas for Yanrdale. You can read about it Here. Mandalas are known to be a spiritual symbol in Hinduism and as a Muslim I am not doing them for their spiritual significance but for their beautiful aspect and wide array of usage. You can use them in bags, square them up and crochet yourself a pillow case, stiffen them up with glow or starch and decorate your walls, ...etc. Use your imagination and you will come up with something beautiful as well as unique.

The one in the picture is the fourth one I have done using this pattern. I am just trying to perfect the pattern and I am still having a little snag when I try to join two of the rounds when using different colours. I am going to crochet another one in a number of colours and write up the pattern once more. Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks the pattern will be up and ready.

I hope that you would appreciate the creations I have shared with you. I will be sharing these three patterns for free with you in the next few weeks once I have written up the tutorials.

Love,
Salma

Louly's first blanket

I made this blanket when I was pregnant. I cant remember whether it was before finding out the baby's sex or after; it is almost 4 years ago now:) All I can recall is that I want to make my baby's 1st blanket and I had a huge stash of cotton yarn. So, I grabbed my yarn and hook made a chain and went on making rows and rows of trebles.

I needed something to occupy me because I stayed most of the time under home rest. Unfortunately, making rows and rows of the same stitch even when I was alternating colours every two rows did not make things any easier. Half way through I was honestly bored but I kept going for my baby's sake.

However, the end result was magnificent and once again my helpful mom gave me a hand and tucked in the zillion ends that needed to be tucked away. All my relatives and friends commended me for it and that made all the pain of crocheting it vanish in thin air.

There is nothing more dear to a mom than making something for her kids which they will cherish for life :) Since the blanket was quite large, Louly is still using it as a lap blanket in the car when she falls asleep. And I am so happy that she is loving it more and more each day...

A glimpse on my projects :)

Today I am going to share with you a few of my finished and unfinished projects. These ones are not of my own design but I love them just the same...
This is the very first handbag that I crochet and yet have to wear as I finished it over a couple of days ago. I used Dada's place Primavera flowers which you can find Here. It is such an amazing flower that she used to crochet a blanket out of , but I thought it would be great for a bag and I have to admit that I am happy with the end result.

I joined my flowers using the "zipper" method which Dedri from Look At What I Made explained in her tutorial Here. I wanted to give them that raised effect, so instead of putting my blocks side by side, I have placed them on top of each other with the right side facing the outside and then followed Dedri's instructions. While you are at it you might want to check her website, she is an amazing designer and her tutorials are one of a kind :D

As for the handles, my best friend gave me a link for those handles which turned out to be very sturdy and cute at the same time. you can find the tutorial Here.

I have to give a huge thank you to my mom who was kind enough to line the bag for me. Unfortunately, I wasn't there when she was doing it. I was really looking forward to do it with mom as I wanted to learn to sew because I suck at it but alas she wanted to surprise me :)
